Crypto payment gateway alternatives compared (2026)
Hosted crypto payment gateways publish headline fees from 0.23% to 2% per payment; the bigger differences are who they let in, who holds the funds and which countries they serve. Coinbase Commerce closed after 31 March 2026, NOWPayments' current terms exclude the EU, UK, US, UAE and Russia, and CoinGate no longer supports USDT. Crypto Merchant charges 1% per paid invoice and asks for no documents to sign up, but it's custodial, with no plugins and no bank settlement.

How do I choose a crypto payment gateway?
Start with what rules a gateway out: your country, the checks it runs and whether it holds your funds. Then compare plugins, fiat settlement and what a typical month really costs.
- Country. Check it first. Coinbase Business serves only the US and Singapore, NOWPayments' terms exclude the EU, UK, US, UAE and Russia, Heleket excludes 59 jurisdictions including the US and Pakistan, and Cryptomus and OxaPay don't serve the US.
- Checks. CoinGate, BitPay, Binance Pay, CoinPayments and Coinbase Business verify the business before live payments, and Cryptomus needs KYC for full access. Plisio, OxaPay, Heleket, NOWPayments and Crypto Merchant let you start without documents, though several of them say they may ask later. Read the terms, not just the homepage.
- Custody. A custodial gateway holds the keys and keeps a balance for you; a non-custodial one pays into a wallet only you control. BTCPay Server is non-custodial, NOWPayments can pay straight to your wallet, and the rest here, Crypto Merchant included, are custodial. Custodial vs non-custodial payments explains the trade-off.
- Plugins. On WooCommerce, Shopify, Magento or WHMCS, a plugin saves development work. Most gateways here have some. Crypto Merchant has none, so you'd use payment links, the hosted checkout or the API.
- Fiat settlement. BitPay, CoinGate, CoinPayments and Coinbase Business can pay out to a bank account, and NOWPayments offers fiat withdrawal through partners. Crypto Merchant pays out in crypto only.
- Fees after minimums. Compare a typical month, not the headline rate: fixed fees per payment (BitPay's 25¢), monthly minimums (Binance Pay's Mini Program tier), paid plans (Coinremitter Premium), and conversion, withdrawal and network fees. Our pricing page lists every Crypto Merchant cost.
