BitPay alternative: Crypto Merchant vs BitPay (2026)

BitPay verifies every merchant (KYB), with ID for each owner of 25% or more, business registration and a tax ID, and settles to your bank or in crypto every business day. Crypto Merchant doesn't ask for identity documents when you create an account and pays out in crypto only, which suits freelancers and small businesses without a registered company or tax ID to show. If you need bank settlement or a Shopify plugin, BitPay fits better.

When is BitPay the better choice?

BitPay is the better choice if you need money in a bank account, a plugin for a major store platform, or a processor that verifies every merchant.

  • You need bank settlement in USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, CAD, MXN, NZD or CHF. Crypto Merchant pays out in crypto only.
  • You sell on Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce, Wix or WHMCS and want a plugin.
  • Your partners or bank expect a processor that verifies merchants and screens large purchases: BitPay runs KYB, and shoppers paying over $3,000 make a one-time ID check.
  • You want a provider with a track record and reviews. Crypto Merchant launched on 28 October 2026 and has neither yet.

When does Crypto Merchant fit better?

Crypto Merchant fits better if you can't or don't want to go through business verification, or you want to keep your earnings in crypto.

  • You don't have, or don't want to send, business registration, a tax ID and owner ID. We don't ask for identity documents when you create an account.
  • You want to start without paperwork: sign up, make the one-time $25 go-live payment and take payments.
  • Your customers pay USDT on Tron, which Crypto Merchant accepts; BitPay's support for it isn't confirmed.
  • You take many small payments: 1% of each paid invoice and no fixed amount, where BitPay's fee, as shown in search results, adds 25¢ per transaction.
  • Your customers shouldn't need ID: our checkout doesn't ask them for it, whatever the amount.
